7 Entertaining School Holiday Ideas for Kids    school holiday ideas    It’s time to start making a list of great school holiday ideas for the kids. Except we’ve made  the list for you. Come and check out these 7 fun school holiday ideas!  We’re hurtling into winter, making it all so important to have plenty of school holiday ideas at the  ready to entertain the kids! Being proud owners of NZ’s greatest online toy shop, we are literally  busting at the seams with exciting, educational and affordable toys that kids just love playing with.  But sometimes we know, you just want to have a couple of additional school holiday ideas for kids up  your sleeves. That’s why we know you’ll love this list we’ve compiled.    7 Awesome School Holiday Ideas for Kids  Don’t dread those school holidays anymore, because we’ve put together a great list of 7 engaging  school holiday ideas for the kids!  1.Baking – kids love to bake and eat their efforts but are understandably not that keen on  washing up. However, the activity of baking, decorating and sampling their favourite biscuits,  muffins or cakes will easily take up a few hours. Younger kids will enjoy mixing the  ingredients while learning about and practicing their measurement skills, while older kids can  work independently on following a recipe all the way through. Check out our article for 6 neat  baking ideas.  2.Head to the beach – it may be winter, but the beach isn’t off limits. You can dig and build in  the sand, create shelters from driftwood, hunt for shells and maybe even paddling if you’re  brave.  3.Outdoor art – one the kids can do even if it is raining! Collect interesting leaves, flowers,  petals, twigs and pebbles. Use them to create mandalas, repeating patterns, even self-portraits.  If the weather is wet, bring them inside to use.  4.Scrapbooking – cut out pictures from old magazines or newspapers, hunt out some stickers  (we’ve got some awesome ones), bits of fabric or yarn, and start gluing them onto large pieces  of paper. Design a scrapbook theme to focus on, such as underwater, or a visit to the museum.   5.Design an obstacle course – a great wet day activity for young kids, have them design and  then build an indoor obstacle course. Great fun to be had building and then using afterwards!  6.Have a ‘spa day’ – both boys and girls can enjoy a day focused on them. From dressing up in  their favourite costumes, through to painting their nails, having a shoulder massage and  creating a new hairstyle, a kids spa day can be really fun for everyone.    7.Car boot sale – the school holidays are the perfect time for your child to search out all their  outgrown clothes and toys. With your help, set them up at a local car boot sale for the  opportunity to work on their sales pitch. It’s recycling and earning their pocket money.  As well as our online toy shop, we’ve also got a store at 16 Mokoia Road  Birkenhead you can bring the kids to visit.  We’d love to see you all! 

How Young is Too Young for Kids to Wear Make Up?  When it comes to kids make up, parents often have a firm opinion based upon their  experiences and beliefs. We discuss if there is a ‘right’ age, along with the reasons adults and kids  like wearing makeup.   What is your opinion on kids make up? Is there a specific age that make up is allowable? Or is there a  hard and fast rule for its use in your family? We take a look at what kids make up is and discuss the  reasons both kids and adults wear make up.  What is Kids Make Up? Kids make up, also known as play make up and toy make up are makeup products made specifically  for children. These products therefore are non-toxic and will easily wash off skin and clothing. Often  sold in a set, they can contain items including lipstick, blusher, nail polish, eye shadow and  temporary tattoos.   In our toy shop, we stock a few different sets make up setsNail polish sets Hair Chalk Tattoo At What Age Should Kids Start Wearing Make Up?  Our children are great observers, and they notice their parents, wider community and TV characters  wearing and using make up. So, it makes sense that they too are keen to try it out. There is a key  difference between the wearing of makeup as a child and as an adult and that’s the issue of sex  appeal and self-worth. Adults will generally wear makeup because they want to enhance their  appearance, look and feel attractive and/or it is expected of them. Kids on the other hand will  usually start off by wanting to wear make up because someone they are close to does and they want  to pretend they are an adult too.  When it comes to a ‘right age’ to start wearing kids make up, we don’t think there is one. Obviously  when it comes to using the products, following the manufacturers age guidelines is important. But as  to when a child begins to experiment with makeup products, that is up to their parents to decide.  Factors that they usually take into consideration when making this decision can include:  Child’s age  Parents experiences and beliefs growing up and as a parent  Cultural background, as wearing makeup can be a tradition for some  Allergies and other skin related issues, as a child needs to be able to care for their skin  Whatever decisions you make regarding your children are yours to make alone, no one else’s.  Parenting isn’t simple, but it is well worth it. Good luck!
